our founders

Dr. Ted O’Connell is the founding program director of the Family Medicine Residency Training Program at Kaiser Permanente Napa-Solano.  He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the UC San Francisco School of Medicine and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. O’Connell has previously been on the teaching staff at the UCLA and Drexel University Schools of Medicine. Dr. O’Connell received a degree in psychology with honors from the University of Notre Dame and obtained his M.D. from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.  Dr. O’Connell completed his residency and chief residency at the UCLA-Santa Monica Medical Center.

 

Dr. O’Connell has written and edited over a dozen medical textbooks as well as numerous textbook chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles.  Several of his textbooks are medical best-sellers, including USMLE Step 2 Secrets, Crush Step 1: The Ultimate USMLE Step 1 Review, Instant Workups: A Clinical Guide to Medicine, and Pfenninger and Fowler’s Procedures for Primary Care.

 

Dr. O’Connell is actively involved in medical student and resident education, and is an active clinical lecturer.  Dr. O’Connell practices clinical medicine while pursuing academic interests including procedures, physician development, and medical writing.

Matt Harris is the Exam Circle's CO-Founder and CEO.

In 1995, after a short career as Regional Gallery Operations Manager at Warner Brothers Retail Mr. Harris received his Executive MBA from Pepperdine University's Executive Program with a concentration in strategic planning. He left Warner Brothers and built a clientele that benefited from his acumen as a consultant to start-ups and an analyst for investment offerings. As a result he has been profiled and interviewed by the nation's top financial journals including the CNN - Fortune Newsstand Show, Business Week, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Money Magazine, and San Francisco Chronicle.

In 1997 Mr. Harris founded ExamWeb while preparing to take the CFA (chartered financial analyst) exam. ExamWeb offered a testing and training platform to companies who used it to produce online test prep products or to train and certify employees. Under his watch, ExamWeb  delivered over a billion practice questions to people worldwide studying for tests to enhance their careers. His corporate clients included General Motors, Prudential, Kaplan, McGraw-Hill, Pearson, Reed Elsevier, Berkshire Hathaway, the American Association of Pediatrics, the Royal Society of Medicine and others. ExamWeb provided the platform for a variety of online test preparation titles including USMLE Consult, Rad Review Easy, USMLE Steps 1,2,3, ABIM Renal Prep, and USMLEasy.

 

Matt believes in supporting his community, especially its children. He has served on his local Library Board, has Chaired the boards of a private school and served for 4 years as Chairman of the Board for Orange County's Child Guidance Center. He also served two terms as President of the Board of Pepperdine University's Alumni Association and was a Board Member for its Graziadio School of Business. Matt has also been an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Graziadio School..
